SCCY Shoots Way Low

Postby FFuries » Thu Sep 13, 2018 11:02 pm

My daughter and SIL's CPX-1 shoots way low. At 25 feet the rounds are hitting the dirt, I just thought my SIL was a bad shot, so I took a shot, same result. Aiming at the bullseye on a target 25 feet and there are no holes in the target. The RSO and I finally figured out the rounds were impacting the dirt below the target. So basically aim at the chest of a man size target and hit his feet at 25 feet. It's like the rounds take a nosedive as soon as they exit the barrel. I haven't had a chance to take it apart and inspect their gun yet.

Any suggestions what to look for? Hasn't always shot like this that is what has me perplexed.

Prior to this incident, the pistol had always been fired in an indoor range, this was the first outdoor outing for their pistol. Oh and it wasn't the ammo, I ran a clip of their ammo through my Taurus PT 111 G2, and all the rounds were in the 9 ring or better.

Could be the recoil assembly.
The guide rod may show some wear.
Or the springs may just be fatigued.
Sccy might mail a couple new assemblies upon request.

There have been some other revisions since your sn:103xxx was new in 2013.
Besides the recoil assembly, the ejector and extractor come to mind.
Sccy will only send restricted parts to an FFL.
They might pay the shipping and install the revised parts for free.
Give them a call. hth

Thank you.

Thank you for the fast response.

Are there measurements for the spring? Other than abnormal wear anything else to look for? Their gun has maybe 300-400 rounds through it. Hence why I thought it was operator error af first, when i get a chance I'm going to break it down, clean and oil, reassemble and test it.

The recoil spring & guide rod assembly should be a first look, especially if it's the original part.
Its spring retainers were revised at least two times around that production time period.
Even if it shows no wear, the newer replacement spring assemblies are known to be stronger.

If either of the two frame pins have walked out of position, press them back to center.
Closely inspect the polymer frame at the rear frame pin, for hairline cracks (see pics).
Check that the slide is not cracked,
... the ejector is not bent or broken,
... the extractor moves with spring resistance,
... the firing pin moves with spring resistance,
... the slide hold lever moves with spring resistance,
... the assembly pin is not bent,
... the barrel lug & feed ramp are not worn or misshapen.

Give it a clean & lube and test fire. If it still shoots waay low, call Sccy to describe its inaccuracy.
Be sure to tell them that you have two CPX's with serial numbers from that same 2013-14 lemony vintage.

The recoil assemblies may not be restricted parts, meaning that they might be mailed directly to your home.
And discuss a warranty repair for any other revised parts. Shouldn't cost you anything but a little time. hth
