CPX3

Postby 3kt's&asccy » Wed Apr 27, 2016 12:12 pm

Haven't been here for a while. I was wondering why everyone's so eager for the CPX3. Why would I want a pistol that's virtually the same size as the CPX2, but chambered for a lesser caliber?? If it was made like the 2, and was small enough to fit in a pocket comfortably, I could understand. But according to the dimensions I've seen, it won't be anymore of a pocket gun than is the 2!! I've tried the 2 in a pocket holster and it's just not a real pocket gun. As much as I like my CPX2, for summer pocket carry I'll have to stick with my KT 3AT. I understand the recoil will probably be milder than the 3AT or the CPX2, but if I'm going to carry a gun that size, it may as well be the full power 9mm!!! Just my thoughts.

I totally agree. I'll keep my Beretta Pico for the hot summer days of minimal clothing.

People want what they can't get even though they may not even want one. I see no purpose of a SCCY .380 unless you are a girl or very old. The recoil would be less from the same size pistol in .380. I would rather have a 9mm myself.

Well dick I am a senior and like I said a lot of seniors can't take recoil...like a girl and prefer less recoil. Nothing sexist about it.

I know this isn't the proper place for this, but after having brought up the subject of the CPX3's size and after having carried a P3AT for about 5 years, I decided to look into other 380 options. Although the P3AT is a perfect pocket pistol size, the trigger is horrible and the recoil is pretty bad. After a lot of research I decided to buy a Taurus TCP P738. WOW!!! Nice gun. Fit and finish like the SCCY. Put rounds thru it Perfect pocket 380!! This is the 380 SCCY should've built!!! I still don't know why anyone would want a 380 the size of a full power 9mm. Just my thoughts!!

I like the TCP. I want a real pocket pistol but not the P3AT or LCP. I just need them to go on sale or be a good price at a show at the same time I have some extra disposable income available. :D

It's a BSS, "D" series, came with a spare mag (to my surprise), $209.95 plus $5.00 transfer (background check) fee!! Quite a bargain, I believe!!! Really nice gun. Just feels and handles so much better than the P3AT. A few more shooting sessions to prove reliability and it'll replace the Kel Tec in my pocket!!!

Nice! What PD ammo have you been carrying in your P3AT, and what ammo have you fired thru your new TCP?
I think I've watched all of Shootin'TheBull's Ammo Quest, both .380 and 9mm, good stuff there.

I carry Hornady 90gr Critical Defense FTX. And it worked fine in the TCP when I tested it yesterday. I want to put a minimum of 100 rounds thru it before I start to carry it. It fed the FTX flawlessly, so to continue the break in I'll use FMJ.

The 380 test shots from Shootin'TheBull were from a TCP 2.8" barrel.
There's also some interesting 380 results at LuckyGunner thru a G42 3.25" barrel.

Of course, reliability comes first. Congrats.

I agree about the CPX3 size, I don't really understand the reasoning for a 380 the size of a 9mm. I had the Taurus TCP, very nice, well made, extremely reliable. Recoil is stout, but my problem was that I was always accidentally dropping the mag. I had to use a different grip than I use on any other gun to avoid hitting the mag release after every shot.

HP ammo that doesn't expand is no better than RN.
The opposite is also true.

I agree with that. I was excited about it considering how small the 9mm is. I figured cool, now a really small version of the 9 but after reading about it it is virtually identical in size and weight to the 9mm so why would you want it? My CPX2 fits in my pocket or even better in my waistband so unless the CPX3 was considerably smaller it's not worth it.
