Postby trojan11521 » Mon Jan 23, 2017 6:54 pm

so i got a new cpx-2 brand new born on 7/5/16 and i keep getting a failure to feed every other round (the slide would not fully chamber). so i called sccy and they are sending me 2 new mags. so is this a fix? haven't they known about this issue for about 2 years now how is this still an issue?

Have you tried?
Polishing the feed ramp...I like to use mothers mag. and q-tips.
There is other very good products that will work.

Load the mags with ten rounds then let them sit for a few days.
Keep the first round nose up.

Clean and lube the gun.
My cpx-2 likes grease instead of oil.

Yes there is a break-in period.
The frame rails will become rounded to match the slide.
Only use FMJ during this period.

Good luck.

I just got my new one built in June, same exact problem. I got six magazines and then a phone call from Jason, a gunsmith from Sccy. He had me bend the front corner of the feed lips on the magazine outward ever so slight, foxed my problem.

Makes me want to ask what is the stock mag angle? (aka feed lips).
I can't find my cheap angle finder tonight.

cpx-2 fail to feed

Postby Lefty Red » Tue Jan 24, 2017 2:58 am

Ok, the malfunction sound more like a failure to return to battery. Way different than a FTF.
Main causes of FTRB are: 1) improper ammo size. 2) build up on the barrels throat area of some residue or shaving from the bullets. 3) the slide is binding on the frame taking away the momentum 4) bad recoil springs. 5) improper fit at the magazine and feed ramp, causes the momentum to decrease.
Does it happen on the first magazine? After a few rounds?
Interested on what the outcome is. Just by the info, I doubt it's the magazines. And like stated before, there is a break in period of these pistols. In fact wrench459's post is spot on and cures for most new pistols no matter what the manufacturer.
My two SCCYs both suffered this during the first 200 rounds. But it was caused by my crappy old reloads I had to use up. Last 400 or so round have been flawless. They do work!

My mag lips (which work) measure .324 in back and .344 in front. Mags can definitely be the issue.

First measured the mag thickness....033.
Then measured O/D front and rear.
~.425 rear
~.456 front.

Multiplied case x 2 .066
Then I/D should be .359 R ..390 F

Some of the terminology does get kind of crazy.

1. FTF
2.FTF
3.FTE
4.FTE

With #1 lets call this fail-to-feed.
# 2 fail-to-fire
#3 fail-to-extract
#4 fail-to -eject

There has to a better way to get our point/problem across.

This is how to measure mag lips. 9mm case diameter is .385. Mag lips of .390 won't hold the round.

Just a photo I grabbed off the internet for illustration.
The pico is also for illustration. Trying to get an idea of the problem.
