SCCY MAGAZINES....My Thumb Hurts

Postby drb166 » Sat May 27, 2017 9:52 pm

This may be my first double stack compact handgun (cant remember if my Sig .357 from the '90's was double stack or not). What I do remember is that I never had to fight with a magazine to load it to capacity. I've loaded 5 magazines, trying different techniques, and they are always hard as hell after 5-6 rounds. Am I missing something or do I need to get a loading gadget? I disassembled the two mags that came with the CPX-2, and two I bought online. The springs are all the same height and feel like the same tension. I'm just shocked at how hard it is to fill to capacity. Any thoughts? What mag loading gadgets or techniques do you folks use?

Yes, SCCY mags can be very hard to fully load.

I bought a ProMag LDR 02 a few years ago. Works great for me.

Here's one place to get them, there are others.

It's not the blast that kills you - It's the tumble to the bottom of the 800 foot crater.....

I suggest you use a Uplula. You can get it from Amazon, eBay or the online stores.

Thanks getvicious and TXSCCY. It looks like a loading tool is the way to go. Thanks for the recommendations.

I solved the issue on my mags by loading 8 in each mag for an entire month. When the month was up, I unloaded them, waited a day just to let the spring and case return to normal after being stressed, then loaded 10 in to them with absolutely no issues. They've worked great ever since.

I think the magazine springs just needed to be under tension for a couple of days. After letting the fully loaded magazines sit for two days, they load easily now. I may still get a loading tool because I need to put a lot of rounds through it to get used to the gun.

I bought a Range Tray of Fle-Bay for $7.95 shipped. It works great for my old tired old fingers. My CPX1 is my first double stack. I am use to loading well broke in military 45acp clips

I had the same thing, they loosened up after a while. Leave them loaded (safely and securely) for a while, that helped a lot.
