Okay, thanks everybody for the input! Second trip to the range today... We're getting there!
After the last trip to the range, all I did was give the pistol a real thorough cleaning, and keep the mags loaded for a week. So today I shot the following...
30rnds Armscor 124gr fmj - no failures
30rnds PMC Bronze 115gr fmj - 1 failure to feed
30rnds American Eagle 147gr fmj fp - no failures
30rnds Geco 124gr fmj - 1 failure to feed
So twice as many rounds down range and half the failures. I would still like to see this get down to 1 or less failures per hundred. Some interesting thoughts and findings...
I had read that the larger 147 grain bullet sometimes isn't a favorite in smaller pistols. And because it was a flat Point Full Metal Jacket I actually thought and expected failures here. I was happy that, at least for the 30 rounds, there seems to be no problem. I will run more of these through. Since I don't plan on running any + p through this pistol I wouldn't mind having the option of the 147gr bullet.
After doing the first 90 rounds off hand, I wanted to get a better sense of the accuracy capability of the pistol. When I bench rested, I was happy with the accuracy. For this pistol and what it's expected to do it's definitely got acceptable accuracy capabilities. Now it's just a question of me getting better with it.
I will note that the finger grooves in the grip don't exactly align with my hand. I removed the extension from the grip for the pinky finger, because the way I carry this doesn't work. So I would say after each three or four rounds I had to readjust my grip a bit. This is nothing catastrophic, just something to note. I don't really see a situation where I would have to Rapid Fire more than three or four rounds without the ability to do a split second regrip. But just making a note.
I will also say that the failures I experienced weren't anything catastrophic, and were cleared fairly easily and quickly with a quick pull on the slide. I've seen some horrendous Hang-Ups in some photos but I, knocking on wood, experienced the failures to feed in a pretty minor sense and we're easy to clear.
The next step for me is to run some more of this "cheap" ammo through it and see if as I get past the three hundred round mark the failures reduce further. I'll also Now buy some of the more higher end defense Specific bullets and see how they run. I have found rounds like the critical defense ammo to be shaped to feed pretty flawlessly in my other pistols so hopefully it will be the same here. If my carry ammo functions flawlessly, and it's just my practice ammo that I have a 1 in 100 failure rate, that will be acceptable for me.
Fingers crossed progress continues.
