R-14 Ft. Dix N.J. 4-5-2014

Sunny but blustery day in central New Jersey. Shot about 90 rounds in MiMC reloaded 115 gr. FMJ and 50 rounds of Blazer Brass 115 gr. FMJ. with only one FTE with the MiMC. Shot about the same ratio through my C-9 with no problems at all. A while back I mentioned that I was shooting low and slightly to the left with my CPX. I though maybe the rear sight was too low and even bought a set of three different sized P-11 sights from Kel-Tec . Well, it ain't the sights. Glad they were only $7. After today I am totally convinced it's been all operator error. I've been able to see and mostly correct what I'm doing wrong. I forget who on this site sent me the 'pie chart of mistakes', but it has helped a lot. Now that I feel much more competent with the CPX, I will be giving it a break from range missions since it's my CCW. I'll be using my C-9 and am looking at a new, full sized main range piece. I want to stay with the 9 MM and am looking at a Rock Island Armory 1911. I have a lot of 'irons in the fire' right now, with dive season coming up (actually it never ends) and some vacations being planned so it may be a while before I can grab one. Plus, I've been neglecting my AR, so I need to bust that out, too.
Leave the gun. Take the canoli.

TechDiver - You sound busy in an attractive way. Hope all the plans work out well for you. I hear many good things about the Rock Island Armory 1911's. 8)

No CCW in Jersey. I live in Pennsylvania. I lock my guns up when I go to Jersey, do my business, and run back over the river to Pa. I just ordered one of these stock/grip/buffer tube cover set-ups to make my AR 'Jersey-friendly'. I didn't want to do it but I really like the range at Ft. Dix and I'm already a member so... Looks somewhat cool, though.

Thanks a lot !! Yeah, it's looks to be a busy summer. Unfortunately I have some not-so-fun stuff to do, also. A lot of painting and landscaping around the house. What are you gonna do ? That sh!t doesn't do itself. Yeah, I have my eye on one of those Rock Islands, they look nice. But I don't think that'll be happening soon.

I think you will like the RIA 9mm. There is one in my little collection, and of the half dozen 9's that I have the 1911 is the most enjoyable to shoot, followed by the M&P. Been thinking about getting a compact 1911 in 9, that would be sweet. I have some fond memories of the ranges at Dix, well, maybe not so fond, lol! That was some 44 years ago, wow, how the heck did that happen??

The Army is STILL there, firing off some big stuff. They were down on the 'Messina Range', about a mile and a half away shooting something I could feel in my chest. Some heavy 'THUMPS' .
