CPX-2 7 yard groups?

Postby spentprimer » Fri Mar 25, 2016 11:27 am

I have read many of the threads where accuracy is discussed and I do not see any empirical data on group sizes. Has anyone fired from a rest with over the counter ammo such as Winchester, Federal, Magte, etc at 7 yards or so ? I am curious as to what measured groups sizes you all are getting?

I have not fired from a rest and will soon while chronoing several brands of the cheaper shoot em' ups. what i can say so far with the chrony is that remington is bad on consistency and dirty. we even had two sub standard sounding loads (sorry, no chrono on them) that caused stovepipes in dads ruger LC9s. mag tech 115 gr seems to be OK. no function problems and much cleaner with Fiocci. as to off hand 7 yd groups IF I do my job they have been as small as 1.5" for 11 rounds but most are 2-2.5" with 3-5 going thru the same hole and a few flyers (ME). much practice on trigger control is whats needed. I don't flinch my Ruger SRH .454 Casull even one handed double action with 2368 ft lbs. BUT I do flinch the SCCY! Its all in your head man!

At 21' I can punch a bunch of holes in a paper plate.
If the paper plate was able to shoot back...
Not sure how I would react under stress.
Then again the cpx aint no range gun in my hands.

If I can hold all my shots on a standard paper plate, shooting about 1 second intervals from 25 or so feet, I call that good to go. That's just me.

I agree with this statement,
11 rounds in center mass..< 1100ms is better. :kickback:

shot my CPX-2 from a caldwell rest at 7yd today with remington 115gr. (I do not like this ammo it is very dirty and has now caused a LC9S and a Sig to malfunction but not the SCCY) fired 2 five shot groups that were one hole with some vertical stringing but all touched each other center to center under 1"
a few more groups had 3 in one hole with a few flyers 2" out. after 30 rds it got much worse, gun was not overly hot since we left it open to cool while we fired the sig after each group. last group was the worst (5"). group sizes for both the SCCY and the sig full size were about the same with the SCCY doing a little better and both got much worse after 30 or so rounds of this ammo no matter who shot them. will clean them and try again with magtech. Please understand that i can only realistically put a full mag freehand into 5 or 6 inches and only with some time to do it, I did get a feral cat that had been killing my bunnies in the head at about 7yd resting over the roof of my car. I am a cat lover and have already taken in 3 strays, it made me sick to do it but it was sickly and mean.

Ugh my wife shoots better than me.
Today she placed three shots to the head with our CPX-2.
Spread 1.5 inches from ~21 feet.
I think that a bad guy/girl would be asol with her.

I wrote a range report back in February after my first time out with the SCCY. I'd never used a DAO trigger'd pistol before so it took some getting accustomed to the long hard pull. Although NOT using a bench rest, I was shooting at 5 sec. intervals at targets out 7-8 yrds (21-24 feet), the targets were 3" circles; I was using both Federal 115gr from the Walmart bulk packs of 100/pk and also Freedom Munitions 115gr ...both new FMJ round nose. Attached is a picture towards the end of my hour of practice from that day. by then the trigger action was lightening up a bit and my own performance with it improving. Although I don't have a picture of it, about a week later at my ladies pistol league our final shoot-out skill was a playing card Trey (3). The object of the skill was to load TWO rounds of ammo and to hit any two of the three hearts/diamonds/ etc.... on the card. The target was at 5 yrds. I centered one shot in each of the top two spades on my playing card. I was amazed at the accuracy of the SCCY... very easy to sight and shoot. I don't know about other folk's CPX-2's but mine was zero'd in perfectly right out of the box.
