First run not successful FIXED

Postby Mark38090 » Fri Jan 06, 2017 12:45 pm

I took my new CPX2 out and it won't feed anything from either magazine. The best I can tell they're being driven straight into the feed ramp with no angle. I called Sccy and they're sending out new magazines. I'll report back my results.

What ammo were you using?
Have you cleaned and lubed the mags?
The spring should be assembled "nose up".

Sorry for your problem. How do your mags look?

10 rounds

Perfecta ammo. Hits about half way up the feed ramp.

I was using Federal and Winchester 115gr fmj. I cleaned and lubed magazines but the rounds just look"flat" in the magazine. Sccy is only 80 miles from my house so new mags should be here in a day or 2.

Both of those cartridges are relatively long.
Remington UMC 115 FMJ is about .040 shorter, which may be helpful in your new pistol.
Continue to experiment with various ammo.

New magazine springs can be rather stiff.
Leave them fully loaded for several days to help relax the set.

New magazines can have sharp edges at the top, which holdon to the cartridges more tightly.

Just a quick question - Do you slingshot the slide to load the round? If so, you might try using the 'slide release' with your thumb to see if that produces enough energy to seat the round properly.

Yes. Should have mentioned that. Also the part about loading the mags for several days. If your new mags work, you can adjust the lips on your originals and hopefully have four good ones.

Make sure the mag springs are not in backwards. The high point of the spring should be toward the nose of the round (front). There was a time when many of the new mags came with backwards springs.

Do these springs look normal? They look mishaped or something to me. Either way, hopefully my new magazines will be here in a day or two.

Mark38090 - Were the high points of the springs under the front of the follower (nose of the round)?

Don't know about the springs looking bad.

Springs appeared to be installed correctly, although EXTREMELY tight. Getting 7 rounds in was no problem, after that it was dang near impossible.

This is with the slide released, the round is hung on the feed ramp. Federal 115gr, happens whether I sling shot the slide or use the slide release. I can barely release pressure on the slide and the round will go ahead and chamber correctly. Fire the round and it hangs again just like this picture.

Mark.
How does the angle of the rounds in the mag compare to mine?

Double stack mags are hard to load. Especially when new. A loader will save your fingers.

Here's a pic of the factory mag from my SAR B6P for comparison.
It's been loaded with 15 Winchester 115gr JHP for nearly a year.
I can load it with 17 by hand, since it was new. Has never failed.

The areas that you circled in red are where the spring transitions from double stack at the bottom of the mag to single stack at the top.
What seems to be lacking is the final upward bend at the top, just below the follower.
