testing ammo in new .380 cpx-3

Postby frank » Fri Sep 01, 2017 4:38 pm

took my cpx-3 to the range for the second time today . last week i fired about 200 rounds for break in of mixed brands of ammo ,
shot well and had a function or 2 but attributed that to bad ammo . this week i took 6 or so kinds of factory ammo and 3 different types of my
reloads . gun did not hiccup once and was accurate with all loads . target was fired off hand 75 shots at 21 feet with 7 different varieties of ammo !! . gun seems to prefer warmer
ammo . round nose ball in order of best were --no1 perfecta no2. seller and belliot no3. acedemy monarch brass .
winchester `white box , pmc , remington , and wolf steel case worked ok ,but seemed a little weak . would not function reliably with winchester
silver tips in brothers cpx-3. all three of my handloads worked well with 95 grain bullets and 3.5 grains of unique . i`m gonna use the perfecta ball
for carry ammo until something better comes along. the more i shoot this little gun the better i like it. believe i will get another-----------

wrench ------ that load seems kind of hot to me for a small pistol ( most data i`ve found is 4 to 4.2 grains max ), but i am in the use hard ball and penetrate deeper camp anyhow. ( with a .380 )
have you tried that loading ?

wrench---------chart with 95 grain bullet at 850 fps ( guesstimated ) says 80 ( .45acp hardball is 196 ). if i was worried about that kind of stuff i would just start carrying
my 1911 .45 or charter arms .44 special bulldog again . i don`t want to shoot much + p stuff in this little gun and beat it up.
my experiences with keltec p11`s and pf9 `s have shown parts start breaking and wearing out fast with stiff loads .--------------

The XTP design is fairly decent it will need to be loaded on the hot side in order to get nice expansion.
Should be no problem that a life time warranty pistol can't handle.

Did you notice any issue with the frame pins walking out of position like is somewhat common with the CPX2?

pins have not moved a bit after 300 rds , the .380 is a lot milder than the 9mm. the pins did start walking on my cpx-2 and i
just tapped them back and super glued them----------

4th trip to the range with the cpx-3 today . round count is up around 400 or so now . shot mostly my lee 95 grn. lead cast
bullet practice loads . gun shoots better than i can hold . target was shot off hand at 20 ft (10 shots ) . i could not do much better with my
S & W 9mm `SHIELD ` or my brothers $ 1300 dollar kimber .45 pro carry . this little gun is a shooter ! my brothers cpx-3 is working
real well also ---
