Watch what you buy

My small kid and I were shooting yesterday in the "back yard." Our neighbor came over to help us shoot with his Ruger .45 (1911 clone). He brought some WWB and Federal ammo. The WWB worked just fine as it always does for him then he started using the Federal.

He had constant malfunction issues. It wouldn't load right, wouldn't eject properly and one time he had so much trouble he almost dropped the magazine out of the gun and did loose 3 rounds onto the ground.

He mentioned that his gun didn't like the Federal ammo and thought it was because it was shorter than the WWB he had been using, and all the other ammo he's used before.

I went and looked at the ammo box and compared the round to a casing from the WWB. It was much shorter. I looked at the box closer and noticed it was marked .45 G.A.P. instead of .45 ACP or Auto.

None of us had ever heard of .45 G.A.P. so looked it up. It's Glock Automatic Pistol ammo. Check out these two URLs for the differences.

He's going to be embarrassed when I tell him what he bought.

While my neighbor's .45 ammo issue isn't directly applicable to SCCY guns, this makes me wonder how many people have tried to shoot .380 ACP (9mm Kurz) thru a 9mm Luger pistol. I think it would be a similar experience.
It's not the blast that kills you - It's the tumble to the bottom of the 800 foot crater.....
