Gander Mountain ammo sale

Postby ScadaSkid » Sat Aug 23, 2014 1:24 pm

I received a Gander Mountain sale ad in our local paper the other day for the upcoming hunting season and they listed good prices on ammo. I went today to check it out. They must have cleaned out Blazer Brass because they had tables full of it in 9, 40 and 45. I picked up a 350 round box of 9MM 115gr FMJ for $89.99, 30 bucks off the normal $119.99. That's around 12.85 per 50 rounds. They also had a great selection of 22LR, I picked up a 325 round box of Federal 40gr Auto Match for $19.99.

Cool. That is cheap for Gander Mountain. Most of the time, they seem pretty proud of their ammo...well, in the way of prices anyways.

My store Ohio valley had blazer 115 grain for the same price12.95 for 50 rnds but the only thing my sccy will shoot is Winchester 115 and hornaday 115 grain hp. It jams on any other ammo I tried.

I don’t know about you guys, but that ammo seems pretty expensive; is it ‘Match Ammo’ or? what’s the story on this XM193 stuff?

Gander is the worst place in my experience for guns, ammo and service. A 55.00 box of ammo there is 28.00 at walmart next door. But I have an ammo guy and cabelas has really good deals sometimes.

Randy-thanks for your post. I am a new CPX-2 user and so far Blazer has been nothing but headaches with up to 5 jams per mag. I'm going out today to see if another brand of ammo works in this pistol because this has been a wasted purchase up to now. I sent the gun back for repairs, got it back yesterday after they "tuned the ejector" (I thought they only did that with 1911's) and fixed the ejector rod and deburred the followers. Unfortunately, same issue. My Range Office - 30 years of comeptitive shooting and the gunsmith at my club say the only thing it could be is ammo.

I'll try the Hornady and report back.

I've had good results with TulAmmo BrassMAXX. It's found at WalMart in a 100 round "soup can" for approximately $23.00. It's FMJ with brass case.

I've also had good results with Federal Champion FMJ. Also found at WalMart. Last time I bought this is was about $22.00 for a 100 count box. This was a year ago. This is the brass case ammo, not the aluminum case.

Essentially, any brass ammo I've used from WalMart, or other places, has worked just fine. WalMart is just normally the least expensive, unless there's some really good sale going on.

I've never used aluminum case Federal ammo. As an aside, SCCY recommends not using aluminum or steel case ammo.

Hornady Critical Defense works great in my CPX-1 and I use it for carry ammo.

Federal 9mm aluminum runs flawlessly in my CPX-2. SCCY says not to use it because of complaints were higher firing this vs. brass. One of the ranges I use is owned and run by former police officers and is a major supplier for law enforcement handguns. They highly recommend aluminum ammo and encourage it's use. I have run it in not only my SCCY. but a Sig P938, SD9VE, and a Beretta PX-4 Compact without 1 failure.

I have always had good luck with aluminum cased ammo.
