I had a few and they worked fine. I've yet to find a round that the Sccy can't use.

Try it in your firearm before relying on it for carry, regardless of what firearm you have. Seems to be some variability from SCCY to SCCY as to what ammo they'll accept.

toymachine makes a great point. Whatever gun you have for self-defense and whatever ammo you intend to use in it for self-defense, test it to be sure the combination works to your satisfaction. You're talking about your life, and your family's lives here. It's important.

To your question - all the HP ammo I've used in my CPX has functioned well. I carry Critical Defense.
Dynamic Research Technologies 85 Grain HP Frangible +P
Federal Premium 135 Grain HYDRA-SHOK JHP
Hornady Critical Defense 115 Grain FTX
Magtech Guardian Gold 124 Grain JHP
Remington UMC 115 Grain JHP
WWB 147 Grain JHP

I've also tested the self-defense ammo I have for my other guns. I have not been surprised and all have functioned well. I don't believe the initial test should be in an actual self-defense situation.

Mine has handled all JHP's well, except for 147 grainers. It will not feed them...they stove pipe to beat the dickens.

My CPX-2 has been a POS from the start. It went back, and came back no better. It wouldn't handle any hollow points. I feel they knew it was a POS when they "examined" it, and stuffed it back down my throat, as the stonewalling began when I complained again.

I certainly won't buy anything else from SCCY, or any subsequent company with the same management.

This just shows you get what you pay for, only these things ought to be priced below the High Points.

Importantly experienced shooters are not having issues with hollow point ?FMJs.Its in how you have your grip on the firearm that allows the slide to fully retract and strip off a round from the magazine and insert that round into chamber ! Practice and control and groups will get smaller and issues will diminish ! MDT

I've shot two different 147 grain rounds thru my CPX2 with no issues what so ever. They were the Winchester Train FMJ and the Hornady 9mm Custom XTP JHP. The XTP is currently my carry round.

So far, mine likes Critical Defense. I've seen gel tests on several brands of JHP 9mm ammo, and it seems like Critical Defense is the best performer when being fired from guns with three inch barrels. Seems to get a good 12" to 13" penetration with decent enough expansion.

Just ran 2 mags of Federal HST 124gr through my CPX-2. Averaged 1027fsp over my cheaper chrono. They get great ratings out of short barrel self defense pistols. No function issues in my SCCY.

Newbe from northwestern PA.

Bought a cpx1 in 2009 had a few issues at first seems to shake them the more I cleaned it. I learned they have a very tight tolerances. Worst issue was a stuck empty cartridge in the barrel with the slide stuck. So I took it to gander mountain. The armour said he slid a brass shim under the slide to release it ? And took a wooden dowell pushed the empty cartridge out. I have about 600 rounds through it now. No feeding problems with any brand of ammo. Keep it clean.

Howdy and welcome from NC. Glad you found us.

So, your CPX looks like this, right? An original model (Gen 1).
