Best Ammo for CPX 2 ?

Postby hitmanharleyk » Wed Sep 14, 2016 9:50 pm

I know it has been discussed here somewhere thru the years, I'm just to lazy to look for it. Would everyone rank Ammo best to worse for them so that us newbies will know where to go. I've only had my 2 SCCY's for a couple of weeks so my list will be very limited.

1. Maxxtech (Brass) Paid $9.99 for 50 rounds at BudK.com. No FTE's or FTF's

2. Federal (Aluminum) Paid $19.77 for 100 rounds at Walmart. No FTE's or FTF's, one lite strike.

3. Either S & W White box (might be Winchester) Paid $16.95 at Gun shop when I picked up my gun. No FTE's or FTF's

4. Tulammo (Steel) Paid $8.99 for 50 pounds at Budk.com. SCCY did not like this at all. Wouldn't feed it, quit after 5 rounds. My wifes LCP 9s blew thru it, 45 rounds with no problems.

Next week I'm picking up a couple boxes of the Blazer Brass to try, $9.99 for a 50 count at a nearby gun shop (not where I got my gun)

I think it's good to try various types of ammo:
I've had good luck with AGUILA AMMUNITIONwhen I can buy bulk. 115GR, (115GR+P for a XDm9MT Carbine), I don't shoot +P or +P+ in the SCCY...personal choice
WALMART.
Perfecta WWB, PPU
I'VE got the last of some Remington HP that looks like a regular 115gr. with to center opened up. They feed really well.
Trying some Win. HP next...A little longer and not as rounded as a target 115gr.

I haven't had any problems no matter what ammo I've used. Eats it all. I even put 100 rounds of steel case Tulammo through it with zero problems.

I am a new owner and fired my CPX-2 today for the first time. It did not reliably cycle the range-bought Federal White Box 115gr FMJ, with approximately 35 jams in firing 100 rounds. The range officer fired the last 25 rounds and experienced the same issue. The ammo has problems feeding into the chamber, jamming the weapon. I thought they might be nose diving in the magazines, so I checked the springs and they both were installed correctly.

I did fire 50 rounds, alternating magazines, of Remington UMC 115gr FMJ that I took with me without incident. I am going to try some different manufacturer's rounds before I call SCCY, although they claim on their website that most brand-name ammo will work and explicitly list Federal.

This has been my experience so far; Remington UMC 115 gr FMJ/JHP feed very well. I did have some light strike issues with the FMJ but I think it was just that box of ammo was questionable. Federal 115gr FMJ fed ok with only one hiccup in 50 rounds which may have been a limp wrist by me. Winchester 147 gr JHP was a total disaster with nearly every round not feeding correctly. My conclusion so far is that it prefers shorter projectiles that are as round a possible. I have since done some light polishing on the feed ramp and I will continue to experiment and report back.

Hektor, are you certain these were Federal White Box. Although I have not seen every color box of every Manufacturer, I haven't seen Federal White Box. I do know that my CPX2 has feed problems with Winchester White Box 115gr FMJ. After having FTF issues with them, I measured several with a micrometer. I found that the OAL of WWB is all over the map. Quite a few of them on the bleeding edge of being too long as per SAMMI specs. Although within SAMMI specs, I found that my CPX2 just doesn't care for rounds that are right at the long spec. Other ammo that I have shot without any issues:

Remington UMC
Blazer Brass
PMC
Federal brass cased
Federal aluminum cased
Fiocchi
Perfecta
Hornady Critical Defense

All the above 115gr FMJ

I'm ready for some more testing.
Got some
Federal HST micro
Barnes tac-xpd solid core +p
Last but not least American Gunner 124gr +p

Not to say that FMJ ammo can't kill with a willy placed shot :bdh:

The best Ammo for the CPX-2 is one that doesn't cause any FTF, FTB, and FTE. Please let me know if that ammo exists. Sorry, but the more I shoot my CPX-2 the more it fails; mostly FTB. And now, the forward pin is walking out.

This is what works for me. I use hornady custom 124gr 9mm with no fail to chamber, fire or eject in my cpx-2.The frame pins just recenter and put a drop of super glue on each side to prevent from pin walk. Just so you know the ruger lc9 has the same problem of pin walking and the ruger costs a lot more for the gun. After shooting the cpx-2 i sold my ruger lc9. The cpx-2 was better for me than the ruger. The hornady custom 124gr is part #90242 similar to the old fbi issue round. It is what i carry for SD and it works good.

I have a brand new gun and I only have a box of 1000 TulAmmo steel case 115 FMJ

Do you think these will be okay to "break in" the gun?
